Location: Sheraton Phoenix Downtown, Phoenix, AZ
Room: Valley of the Sun Ballroom DE

This website will be updated as more information becomes available. Please be sure to check back for all the latest information.

DESCRIPTION:

Join us for an interactive course designed to bring you up to speed in molecular pathology.  Topics include current molecular hot topics, preanalytical variables and workflow considerations that impact molecular testing, and an overview of current molecular technology including the application of modern technologies such as next generation sequencing and informatics. Faculty members will present an immersive workshop of case studies where participants will breakout into small groups to work through clinical molecular cases.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Identify common preanalytical variables that impact molecular testing
  • Discuss the methodologic and clinical considerations of when and how to implement testing by NGS
  • Compare and contrast methods of single nucleotide variant detection, copy number detection, and structural variant (fusions) detection by NGS and other related platforms.
  • Discuss considerations involved in workflow for a molecular pathology program including clinical applications, available assays, and costs

TARGET AUDIENCE

Individuals who have basic knowledge of molecular techniques and seek to understand the practical considerations of a molecular diagnostics program, including pathologists, geneticists, laboratory directors, trainees, laboratory technologists, computational biologists and informaticians.
